Needless to say, the NBAPA and Billy Hunter have had a rocky relationship over the last two years.  There was rumored in-fighting during the latest work stoppage, his unceremonious firing on February 16th of this year, and finally Hunter suing Derek Fisher for secretly negotiating with league owners.

Word now comes out that Steve Mills, yes, THAT Steve Mills, is the front runner to take over for Hunter.

Mills, a Princeton University Alum, started in the NBA in 1984 as an account executive for the league and worked his way up to President and COO of MSG Sports until he finished there in 2009.

Mills has spent the last 3 plus years as CEO and Partner at Athletes and Entertainers Wealth management LLC.

Mills was responsible for the Isiah Thomas hiring by MSG and was let go in 2009 after being demoted within the organization.  Both Thomas and former MSG executive Anucha Browne Sanders, who was awarded $11.5 million after suing Thomas and the Garden, reported to him.
