Sometimes it seems like the Knicks are a cursed franchised. Despite coming close, they have not won a championship in 40-years. Bernard King’s injury, numerous Game 7 heartbreaks, unfortunate suspensions and then to add insult to injury, having to witness former coach Pat Riley build a dynasty in Miami!
Then you have the 2012-13 season, a season which began with visions of grandeur at 18-5 only to crash and burn the next 39 games with a 20-20 record. As it stands now the Knicks still remain 1.0 game ahead of the Brooklyn Nets and 3.5 games ahead of a charging Celtics in the Atlantic division, but for how long?
How long can the Knicks maintain that lead with a hobbled Carmelo Anthony?
How long can they maintain that lead without their 100M super sub, Amar’e Stoudemire?
How long can they maintain that lead with JR Smith now clearly the Knicks’ top offensive option with Carmelo out for the foreseeable future?
How long can they maintain that lead starting James “Flight” White at shooting guard?
How long can they maintain that lead showing absolutely no defensive effort?
How long can they maintain that lead if they go winless on this West coast trip?
How long can they maintain that lead with the team’s most indispensable player, Tyson Chandler, out for any period of time with knee issues?
With all the team injuries this season, no image was more heart stopping or frightening than the image of Tyson Chandler pounding the floor with his fist in obvious pain while his teammates stared on in disbelief. The good news is Chandler is actually not expected to miss any significant time, but the bad news is with the way the team has looked the past 3 games will it even matter?
