Knicks Lose to Raptors in Lackluster Performance

Raptors 92 Knicks 88

Tonight was a night that deeply troubled me as a Knicks fan. I would usually write my article about the “Good Things” and “The Bad Things” but tonight I have so little positive things to write that I am going to just express how I feel as a Knicks fan.

Tonight the Knicks did not bring their game the way their record would indicate. The much-improved Raptors came into MSG and beat up the Knicks and we all watched the Knicks beat themselves. Raptors win 92-88 in a game that we all would love to forget.

Problems or Just One Game?

- Carmelo Anthony looked like he was exhausted, he toughed it out, but could not get it going all night. He shot 5-24, resulting in 12 points and 12 rebounds. The troubling part to me is, late in the game when the Knicks were pushing the ball with Felton and JR Smith, they cut the lead, but then they went to an exhausted Melo and he chucked up shots that he clearly was too tired to take. WHY? The Knicks don’t have to go to Melo every possession, especially at the end of games when he clearly has not “got it” that night.

- Tonight was one of those games where the Knicks could not buy a basket or even get a “roll”.

- The Knicks assists total (12) was pathetic for an elite team. Teams that are above the Knicks in the standings average 20+ assists a game. This shows the Knicks have some of the worst ball movement in the league. Raymond is on the floor to run the point, why are Melo and JR url-4bringing the ball up!

- New York shot 35% from the field tonight. That will not be enough to win big games or any game to be honest with you. I understand teams have bad games, but this is happening more and more often.

- Believe it or not the Knicks outrebounded the Raptors tonight 52-35, which is one of the only positive stats of the game.

- Another positive stat in the game was Iman Shumpert’s play tonight. He was intense, aggressive and active for 21 minutes. He will need time to get back to what he was and if the Knicks are willing to wait, it might come.

- Jason Kidd played 31 minutes and was non-existent again. With the struggles he has had, I wonder what to expect for the rest of the season.

Pablo Prigioni is not getting any burn in my opinion. With the struggles of Kidd, I would expect to see more PP, but for some odd reason that has not happened.

- JR Smith was the only bright spot on the offense, he shot 8-17, 5-10 from three and had 26 points.

- The Knicks were very poor at the free throw line, missing 9, which hurt them in the end.

Overall, the New York Knicks need to figure this out quick.  In their rear-view mirror and on their heels are the Brooklyn Nets, Indiana url-5Pacers and the Chicago Bulls. If the Knicks are not careful they will drop the top spot in the Atlantic and drop from second in the East to 4 or 5.

I think the Knicks are just not good as we all think. Their lackluster play on both ends of the court has become to commonplace.

Has Mike Woodson lost the team? I think this might be kind of premature, but something to think about.

The Knicks are now 32-18 and are mentally and physically limping into the All-Star break.

What bothers me the most is, this weekend you will see Melo, Tyson, Novak, and White smiling, laughing and ultimately having a great time. I understand this is a celebration and a reprieve from the daily grind, however the Knicks are in some serious trouble with their up coming schedule. The statement of “must win games” by Melo has becomes tiresome. It is time to put up or shut up. The next 30 games will determine where the Knicks are going. No more talk, just do it and play!
