Knicks 94 Lakers 100
Today is and was Christmas Day. We all are with our families and friends, chillin’ out enjoying the times. What we also have is a full day of NBA basketball, highlighted by the Knicks vs. Lakers. Today was a show down of two different teams on different paths. Knick look good, but are they GREAT? The Lakers turmoil early on has turned into a mini 4 game streak with Mike D at the helm.
Carmelo and crew came into this game with Orange Uniforms for the holiday. Melo and company started off 3 point happy, although looked like good quick shots against a Laker team that is vulnerable to quick decisions of their opponent. Kurt Thomas gave a solid effort and used his time on the floor productively. JR Smith continued his hot shooting and hard play of late with another solid half. On the negative side Raymond Felton, after hitting a few shots continues his downward play the past few games. He is sloppy with the ball and feels the need to shoot the ball way too much. Melo continues to get into foul trouble. He needs to realize his strengths and use it to his advantage. He is amazing when he drives to the basket and has his mid-range jumper going. He has the best of both worlds in his tool box. The Knicks stars of the half were JR Smith and Marcus Camby, I chose Marcus because I thought he gave solid minutes that was well needed and gave Tyson chance to rest, all at the same time. Knicks are in need of front-court depth and this definitely helped. Lakers 51-49 over the Knicks to end the half.
Knicks came out of the Staples locker room guns blazing. Melo erupted with timely 3 pointers as he drove the Knicks early in the 3rd scoring his 20th point on a 3 ball. Melo and JR Smith carried NY again this quarter. The Playoff intense atmosphere was bone chilling tonight. A couple of home calls hurt NY, but when the Lakers went on a scoring streak, so did the Knicks. At one point the Knicks had an 8 point lead in this quarter, but solely from Kobe and his crazy talents, the Lakers fought back into it with a horrible out bounds Felton home call that was obviously wrong. The 4th made this game a regular season classic on Christmas Day. Melo carried the team as he has done all year, but the 6th foul on Tyson and the sloppy play of Raymond Felton was the ultimate factor in this game. Kobe is almost unstoppable, so you expect him to do what he does best and dominate. However, the play of Nash and Howard really hurt the Knicks late in the quarter.
In the end the Knicks could not hold off the surging Lakers this day. Some bad shots and defense lost this game tonight. Lakers 100 Knicks 94.
