Mills continued to say that Thomas has no role, formal or informal with the team, plugging his name as a potential candidate to run the Players’ Association, or even to replace Magic Johnson on ESPN’s studio show, but not with the Knicks. Thomas is always rumored to have Knicks owner Jim Dolan’s ear.

“He doesn’t have any role,” Mills said of Thomas. “He doesn’t have any role with the team. Isiah has a lot of good things going on with him personally and I do hope he’s one of the guys that they consider for the Players’ Association job. I don’t know if ESPN, given Magic’s departure from the studio show, if he’s one of the guys they’d consider for that. He’s doing a lot of things. He has a lot of things going on, but one of them is not having anything to do with the Knicks.”

Mills’ recent interaction with Thomas hasn’t gone beyond listening to a message that Thomas left on his voicemail congratulating him on getting the job.
