After a tough loss on Sunday afternoon the New York Knicks media and fans are all thinking about what the team has to do to get over hump to beat the elite teams? The most valuable trade asset the Knicks have after Melo is the young and financially cheap Iman Shumpert. His skills are still evolving, he’s young and his contract is financially flexible. On the other hand, his trade value has gone down in the last year, because of his devastating knee injury that he is currently recovering from. Frank Isola’s interview with Mike Woodson showed the trade talks have reached the locker room.

While Mike Woodson believes that Iman Shumpert will still be a part of the Knicks this season Woodson also admitted that a potential trade involving the second year guard is “out of my hands.”

The New York Knicks might be looking to upgrade the roster in order to advance in the playoffs, since the Knicks are in “win now” mode, they need to build based on a 3-year window. Any other problem they have is inconsequential. Their three-year window is what management should be looking at. Winning at all costs is what Glen Grunwald and his brain trust should be considering in any trade talks and roster upgrades.

Having said all that, what will the Knicks decide to do before the trade deadline? NY needs to analyze their needs and evaluate their roster.
