Why Tyson Chandler Should Be an All-Star

As we all know Tyson Chandler deserved to be the starting Center in the All-Star game representing the Eastern Conference..  Kevin Garnett took that spot when the fans voted and he was announced as the starter in the East. Tyson Chandler’s numbers were substantially better than Kevin Garnett’s, but the fans still voted other wise. Although Tyson wasn’t selected to start, his dream to finally be an All-Star will stay alive for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, Tyson has improved in almost every category this season. Improving his PPG, RPG, free throw percentage, and field goal percentage. This year he is averaging 12.2 PPG compared to his career average of 8.7. He is getting most of his points from offensive rebounds and url-3slamming it back in, pick and rolls, and even at the free throw line. He’s averaging a career high .674 in his field goal percentage, which also leads the league. Finally, he is averaging a career high in rebounds with 11.0 a game compared to his career average of 9.0. Chandler has really stepped up his game this season and is looking to contribute more then just defense.

Secondly, he has been a rebounding machine this season, which is leading to wide-open Knicks shots on the offense. Tyson is known for his famous “Tap Out”. Tyson’s “Tap Out” is when he gets the offensive rebound by tapping the ball in the air to another Knicks player. He is credited with the rebound and this is why his rebounding numbers this season have been off the charts. In the month of January he is averaging 13.6 rebounds, which is insane for a player known for his defense and not for his rebounding. He has grabbed 18 rebounds this season three times.

Lastly, Tyson is arguably the second best center in the NBA behind Dwight Howard. If NBA analysts had voted for the All-Star game then Tyson would for sure be starting, but since the fans vote, it is more of a popularity contest instead of who actually deserves to be in it. Tyson is the reason the Knicks have been playing so well this far in the season and if he keeps up his dominance he will have a shot being on the All-NBA first or second teams.
